About The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly analytical Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Historian to support the NE-NL Nuclear Operations Division, Stockpile Operations Branch (NE-NLOS). In this role, you will provide historical accountability expertise for nuclear weapons programs, ensuring accurate documentation, research, and reporting of stockpile operations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and update nuclear weapons history databases assigned to the DoD.
Conduct research using government records, periodicals, interviews, and electronic media.
Transcribe and digitize historical documents for archival purposes.
Evaluate, validate, and verify historical data for accuracy and completeness.
Investigate and resolve complex historical discrepancies.
Generate detailed nuclear history reports and briefings.
Develop training materials and curriculum related to nuclear weapons history and classification.
Monitor and respond to changes in nuclear weapons classification policy.
Prepare documentation for FOIA requests, Congressional inquiries, and other official communications.
Communicate findings effectively to senior leadership through briefings and written reports.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in History, Political Science, National Security, or related field.
5+ years of experience in historical research, preferably in a defense or government setting.
Familiarity with nuclear weapons programs or national security policy is a plus.
Strong skills in data analysis, archival research, and document digitization.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with FOIA processes and classified document handling.
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with digital archiving and database management tools.
Knowledge of DoD/DOE nuclear weapons policies and procedures.
Background in curriculum development and training delivery.
Familiarity with classification and declassification processes.
