Job Description

Description A highly regarded medical malpractice law firm is seeking a Medical Malpractice Paralegal with a strong background in clinical record analysis and medical research to join their team on a fully remote, contract-to-hire basis. This is a specialized position focused more on medical investigation and analysis than legal procedure - ideal for candidates with prior experience in healthcare, nursing, or complex MedMal litigation. The ideal candidate is someone who can work independently, understands the nuances of medical documentation, and is comfortable producing detailed chronologies, researching treatment protocols, and assisting in expert strategy. This is a unique opportunity for a clinically fluent paralegal or healthcare professional looking to transition into a long-term legal role while maintaining a high level of autonomy and subject matter expertise. Key Responsibilities + Analyze and summarize extensive hospital and medical records to identify liability and causation issues. + Draft detailed medical chronologies and treatment timelines using firm-provided formatting and templates. + Create extracted record binders for experts, attorneys, and treating physicians (electronic format preferred). + Collaborate with attorneys to highlight potential areas of defense strategy based on clinical findings. + Conduct literature reviews using PubMed, UpToDate, FDA databases, CDC guidelines, DailyMed, and similar resources. + Research treatment protocols, black box warnings, and professional guidelines relevant to case defense. + Summarize findings and provide concise references for use in pleadings or expert consultation. + Identify and research qualifications of potential medical experts across specialties. + Draft internal memos outlining licensure, board certifications, testimonial history, and relevant publications. + Conduct background investigations on treating physicians and opposing experts using litigation and licensure databases. + Use verdict and settlement databases (e.g., VerdictSearch, Westlaw, Lexis) to assess value ranges and trends in similar cases. Requirements Qualifications + Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a Medical Malpractice paralegal role or directly adjacent medical-legal field (e.g., nursing consultant, MedMal defense firm). + Proven ability to review and synthesize complex hospital records and create medical chronologies. + Experience conducting medical research using professional databases (e.g., PubMed, FDA). + Familiarity with litigation support tasks such as expert vetting, background checks, and electronic document management. + High attention to detail and strong written communication skills. + Comfortable working independently in a remote setting and juggling competing deadlines. + Prior nursing or clinical background strongly preferred. + Experience supporting attorneys in defense-side MedMal litigation a plus. + Familiarity with PDF tools for creating electronic binders, and experience with case management systems like Filevine or similar. + Candidates without direct experience reviewing hospital records or supporting MedMal defense teams will not be considered.
