The Workforce Development Tutor is a full-time, 10-month position based in the Student Success Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Center offers a broad range of academic and student support services, including tutoring, academic coaching, and success-focused workshops. This role specifically supports students enrolled in workforce development programs—such as Occupational Endorsements and Certificates—by providing targeted, program-specific tutoring in core areas like math, writing, communication, and job readiness. Through a combination of embedded classroom support, individualized tutoring, and close collaboration with faculty and staff, the Workforce Development Tutor plays a key role in advancing student achievement, credential completion, and preparation for the workforce.
The ideal candidate will be student-focused, adaptable, and effective at building relationships across diverse educational environments. They should demonstrate strong communication and instructional skills, with the ability to support learners at various academic levels in core areas such as math, writing, and communication. Experience working with students in career and technical education programs—including traditional, non-traditional, and first-generation college students—is highly valued. Success in this role will require a proactive, collaborative approach with faculty, the ability to integrate tutoring into program-specific content, and a strong commitment to equitable access to academic support. Familiarity with workforce readiness topics—such as résumé writing, interviewing, and professional communication—is also important.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in education, communications, mathematics, writing, or a related field and at least two years of experience in tutoring, academic support, training, or human resource development; or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
Position Details:
This is a full-time, term-funded, 10-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 79, based on education and experience.
