  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to share updates on student progress, discuss concerns, and collaborate on strategies for student success.
  • Participate in team meetings with other special education staff, general educators, and administrators to ensure students receive the full range of support they need.
  • Advocate for students and ensure they have access to all necessary accommodations, services, and resources.
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices in special education, including the use of technology, and actively seek professional development opportunities.
  • Develop and implement social-emotional learning strategies, behavioral interventions, and individualized supports to encourage student success both academically and socially.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education for LA
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including students with IEPs, in an elementary school setting.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices for inclusive education.
  • Experience with or openness to incorporating technology into the classroom (e.g., assistive technology, educational apps, interactive tools).
  • Strong ability to create and implement individualized education plans and adapt instruction to meet the needs of all students.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, flexibility, and a passion for working with students with special needs.
  • Ability to maintain organized records and provide regular feedback on student progress.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with assistive technology tools (e.g., speech-to-text software, communication devices, or interactive digital resources).
  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom, Seesaw, etc.).
  • Willingness to learn and integrate new educational technologies to enhance learning for students with diverse needs.
