Real Estate Controller - Center City - Hybrid - $130-160k
*Must have current/prior real estate industry experience*
The Real Estate Controller will be responsible for the financial health and reporting of a company's real estate portfolio. This role oversees all accounting functions related to real estate assets, ensuring accuracy and compliance and will provide critical financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Financial Management & Reporting: Oversee the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for the real estate portfolio. They manage budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis to track performance and support the company's financial goals.
Accounting Operations: Manage daily accounting functions, such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance. This includes ensuring proper accounting for real estate transactions like acquisitions, dispositions, and capital improvements. Will also handle month-end and year-end closings.
Compliance and Audits: Ensure compliance with all real estate laws, tax regulations, and accounting standards under GAAP. (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.) Will coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to manage annual audits and filings.
Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor the accounting and finance team. This includes fostering a collaborative environment, conducting performance reviews, and providing guidance to ensure efficiency and professional growth.
Strategic Support: Collaborate with other departments, such as property management, legal, and leasing, to offer financial insights. Will prepare presentations and analysis for executive leadership, board members, and investors to aid in strategic planning and investment decisions.
Education: A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. A CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or other equivalent certification is preferred.
Experience: Requires several years of progressive accounting experience, with a significant portion in a leadership role within the real estate industry.
Technical Skills: Must have experience with real estate accounting principles , including CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations, lease accounting, and transaction accounting. Proficiency with real estate accounting software, such as Yardi, MRI or JDE , is preferred. Strong skills in Microsoft Excel are also essential for financial modeling and analysis.
