Responsibilities:
· Receive, review, and process FOIA requests in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies
· Conduct searches for responsive documents across various databases and information systems
· Analyze responsive records to determine releasability, applying appropriate FOIA exemptions and redactions as necessary
· Prepare and issue official correspondence to requesters, including acknowledgment letters, interim updates, and final determinations
· Maintain detailed and organized records of FOIA requests and processing steps in FOIA tracking systems
· Assist in drafting reports, summaries, and metrics for internal and external stakeholders, including annual FOIA reports
· Stay current on FOIA-related case law, policy updates, and best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement
· Support appeals and litigation responses by gathering documentation and preparing records as required
· Participate in training sessions and contribute to the development of FOIA program procedures and guidance materials
Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline
· Proven ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats
· At least 1 year of experience processing FOIA requests (from intake to final response), or 3 years experience as a paralegal; 4+ years of FOIA experience preferred
· Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office software and Adobe Acrobat Pro for document management and collaboration
· Keen attention to detail when reviewing documents for accuracy and compliance
· Proficient in automated FOIA processing tools like FOIAXpress and eDiscovery software
· Capable of managing multiple FOIA requests simultaneously and meeting deadlines
· Skilled in tracking cases, documenting decisions, and maintaining accurate records
