The Director of Student Services plays a critical leadership role in ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. This position oversees counseling, special education services, mental health programs, attendance, and student discipline systems. The Director works closely with administrators, faculty, staff, families, and external partners to promote an inclusive, supportive, and equitable school environment.
Develop, implement, and evaluate programs that support student well-being, including mental health, counseling, and behavioral support services.
Supervise the student services team, including school counselors, social workers, psychologists, nurses, and other support staff.
Serve as the lead for student crisis response, including risk assessments and interventions.
Oversee services for students with IEPs and 504 plans, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
Coordinate with parents, teachers, and administrators to develop individualized plans for students in need.
Work with community agencies to support at-risk students and provide wraparound services.
Facilitate student re-entry plans following suspensions, medical leaves, or other extended absences.
Monitor and ensure compliance with all laws and district policies related to student services, including FERPA, IDEA, and Section 504.
Analyze student data to inform decisions related to attendance, behavior, discipline, and academic intervention.
Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in all student services programs.
Advocate for underrepresented or marginalized students, including English language learners, students in foster care, and those experiencing homelessness.
Prepare reports and present findings to school leadership and school board, as needed.
Develop and manage budgets related to student services programs and grants.
Coordinate professional development for staff related to trauma-informed practices, student behavior, and mental health.
Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field
Valid state certification or licensure in school administration, school counseling, or social work
Minimum of 5 years of experience in education or student support services, with at least 2 in a supervisory or leadership role
Deep knowledge of student development, special education laws, and behavioral intervention strategies
Experience working in a diverse, urban, or high-needs school setting
Bilingual or multilingual ability
Familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Restorative Practices
Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills
Ability to handle sensitive issues with professionalism and confidentiality
Crisis management and conflict resolution skills
