Job Description

Join a growing, privately held real estate company where the Controller doesn’t just report the results - they have a seat at the table.

Founded 35 years ago, BECO is a vertically integrated real estate company maintaining operations in the areas of land acquisition and development, construction, property management and leasing.

BECO is looking for a Controller who is a go-getter and self-starter, someone who doesn’t wait to be told what to do, but instead proactively seeks out opportunities to improve systems and processes, solve problems, and drive results. This role requires a sharp eye for detail, a strategic mindset, and the ability to stay productive and add value.

With operations spanning multi-family communities, mixed-use, commercial and industrial real estate, and both commercial and residential construction, this position plays a key role in ensuring financial transparency, operational efficiency, and continued growth.

What You'll Do:
As Controller, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of accounting operations and financial reporting across BECO’s business units. You’ll serve as a strategic advisor and collaborator to the executive team and department leaders. Key responsibilities include:
  • Partner with leadership to shape the financial strategy and drive strong performance across all BECO entities.
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, producing financial statements and internal management reports.
  • Coordinate the budgeting and forecasting process across departments and entities, including analysis of budget variances and performance metrics.
  • Manage and refine financial policies and internal controls to support compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Partner with the CFO to manage cash flow, financing activities, and capital planning.
  • Supervise audits, tax filings, and compliance-related reporting across all business lines.
  • Support operational leaders with financial insight and decision-making tools to help drive profitability and growth.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required
  • CPA or Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting leadership in a multi-entity, mid-sized company environment
  • Proven experience with real estate investment, property management, and/or construction accounting
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, consolidation accounting, budget planning, forecasting, cash management and HUD/FHA insured multifamily housing
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax relevant to construction, real estate, and property management, with experience in developing creative tax strategies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and experience with ERP/accounting systems
  • Exceptional leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Demonstrates a balance of confidence, initiative and humility — a professional who brings expertise to the table while remaining open to feedback and committed to collaborative teamwork
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
Why You’ll Love Working With Us:
  • High-impact leadership role with visibility across all divisions of a growing real estate and construction portfolio
  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Chance to drive strategic financial decisions in a company that values initiative, innovation, and results
  • Collaborative, positive culture where your ideas matter
